An exceptional midcentury Ronzan Italian ceramic cobra snake dating from the 1950s.

The snake is well modelled with good skin detail to the body, a ‘winged neck’ and well-proportioned shaped head. The large hollow body sits coiled with its head raised in a defensive manner, the tip of its tail also raised. The snake has a moulded textured finish to the body and is hand painted in natural tones with distinctive markings to the back and front of the snakes head and piercing black eyes. 

Hand marked Ronzan MADE IN ITALY to the base and numbered 1661.

Giovanni Ronzan and his brothers founded the Ronzan factory circa 1939 shortly after he had left his job as chief painter and ceramic modeller at the Lenci factory.

Size approx. 32 cm high by 32 cm long.

Good condition, no damage.
