Extremely Rare Masonic Bowl
£295.00
Daisy Makeig-Jones series of “ordinary Lustre” ware.
Occasionally Wedgwood undertook special commissions, this bowl was one of only 25 bowls made for the Freemasons ‘Dunelm Lodge’ in Darlington. It was presented to one of the guests at ‘Ladies night’ in 1925. This is illustrated in the book by Una Fontaines – Wedgwood fairyland lustre : the work of Daisy Makeig-Jones.
The Lodge chose an octagonal bowl in the rare green lustre, decorated with the gold outlines of mythical dragons. (Silver is the element mixed with glaze to produce the gorgeous green lustre, the pieces were more expensive to produce). The bowl has a mother of pearl lining with the Coat of Arms of the lodge printed on the flat base.
