SILVIA KLODE-HOFFMANN, born in 1956 East Germany, is a sculptor and medallist. In 1973 she started a 5 year apprenticeship at the State Porcelain Manufactory Meissen, later studying sculpture at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts. After graduating she returned to Meissen to work in the ‘New Artistic Development’ department. Silvia has exhibited worldwide, winning many awards, and her art work is held in numerous museum collections.

I have a spectacular pair of 20th century allegorical figures, ‘Day’ and ‘Night’ modelled as two slender female figures celebrating femininity.

The figure representing Day is dressed in hot shades of orange, her gaze upwards, her tattooed arms stretching towards the sun. On the ground behind her the morning cockerel crowing.

By contrast the figure representing Night is darkly painted in a cobalt blue gown with falling leaves and stars. She is half asleep, one eye closed, with the other she looks out from the darkness, on her shoulder an owl.

Both figures are based on flat round bases with applied small rosettes with the artist’s signature ‘KS’.

In 2002 Meissen released a Special Edition of figures named “Couple Wise”. These are marked on the base with two intertwined number 2 in gold. Both these figures have the Special Edition Signature on the base.

Height of ‘Night’ 42cm, ‘Day’ 53cm

The factory mark of the blue crossed swords is on the underside.

Incised model numbers 90565 and 90570.

Condition : Like new.
