Nymphenburg – “After his first great success at designing porcelain dog figures, Konrad Schmid then went on to develop animal models directly with English breeders. Nymphenburg creates some of these models in two sizes. In August 1929, Schmid went to London for the first time and spent nearly seven months travelling from breeder to breeder in order to develop true-to-nature models. The posture of later figures of foxhounds, setters, pointers, and many kinds of terriers – whether standing, sitting, or lying down – always depended heavily on the disposition of the four-legged creatures. The artist painted watercolour sketches on the plaster models sent to Nymphenburg in order to accurately capture the natural nuances of the fur.”
